Barrs Court Probus Club

About Us - What we do

Our key mission is to provide a forum for fellowship, friendship, fun and welfare.

Fellowship – Members share interests, hobbies and other leisure activities with each other. Several of our members enjoy golf and some belong to local bowling clubs. Within the club we have a group of members known as ‘the Breakfast Club’ who normally play indoor bowls on Thursday mornings throughout the winter months.

Friendship – Members and their wives/partners develop close and enduring friendships. Although we are a mens’ club, there is an associated “Barrs Court Ladies’ Club” to which many of our ladies belong.

Fun – We have an active Social Committee which arranges a wide variety of activities throughout the year, to most of which (though not all) our ladies join in:

Our social committee have years of experience in negotiating the keenest prices through group discounts, which works to everyone’s benefit.

Welfare – An essential element of our club is to “look out for each other” in times of difficulty, whether this is due to health issues or any other cause.

Meetings – We hold two meetings each month at the Longwell Green Community Centre on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday mornings.

Typically these meetings are structured into 3 parts:

In order to cover room-hire and other operating costs, members contribute a relatively modest subscription. This is reviewed each year and, at our AGM, our members themselves agree what the fees should be for the coming year. In recent years the subscription has been around £50 and is reviewed annually. Subscriptions are only increased if agreed by members at the Annual General Meeting.

Club members are encouraged to be members of the Community Centre, for which a modest subscription fee is payable.
